Sumo is our incredibly soft, skin-caring, and waterproof diaper cover designed to last and withstand multiple washes per week. The outer shell fabric is knitted in a specific way, making it stretch and drape well around your baby's body. The inside layer consists of a SmartCell jersey membrane, making it waterproof and breathable. This membrane has incorporated Zinc, giving it odor-repelling and skin-protecting qualities. Soft and stretchy straps, plus an additional row of snap buttons, allow for individual size and fit adjustments, catering to all shapes and sizes. Combined with our inlays, diaper liner, and Wet+Dry bag, the four elements create one powerful diaper kit.
Ufo is our 100% natural diaper inlay that is constructed of several layers of non-woven, super-absorbent cellulose fibre sheets, and custom-developed in collaboration with Kelheim Fibres. Designed to quickly distribute and transport any liquid away from the skin to the core. The outer, skin-facing layer is made of a cellulose algae fibre called SeaCell with naturally antibacterial and skin-caring properties.
Dreamliners are the last layer in the diaper, designed to catch the “big business” while allowing liquids to be absorbed. They are placed between our Ufo inlays and the baby's bottom. Made from 100% biodegradable cellulose, it’s suitable for composting. If a compost isn’t within reach, the liner can be disposed of in the household waste or, depending on your country and plumbing, flushed down the toilet.
Schlepp is our leak and smell-proof Wet+Dry bag that has room for up to six used diaper covers and inlays, and space for fresh diapers in the front compartment. It’s your mobile diaper station at home and on the go. Once full of used diapers and inserts, simply open the bag and throw it into the washing machine - no need to get your hands dirty.
MATERIALS
Starting the design process with the fibers, Sumo’s products are made of custom-engineered materials called Sumotex. Created in collaboration with Europe’s leading textile institutes and pioneering mills, our innovative line of biobased performance fabrics is designed to be kind to the baby's skin and the environment. Paving the way towards a plastic-free, circular economy.
VISION
Currently, the diaper market is dominated by disposable diapers, which are resource-intensive, polluting, and potentially skin-irritating. On average, a total of 5,000 disposable diapers are used per child over three years of diapering. 10 million disposable diapers are disposed of every day in Germany. Per child, that’s an average of 1 ton of residual waste in three years.
With Sumo, we have developed the next generation reusable diaper. We want to specifically motivate an environmentally conscious generation of baby caregivers and help them get started with cloth diapering. With pioneering, innovative materials and a contemporary, award-winning product design - we are taking sustainable baby care to the next level.
Our products consist of natural, antibacterial, and vegan fibers that are soft and skin-caring. While working with the most technically advanced raw material and textile producers, our production locations in Germany and Europe make the brand fair, local, and resource-saving.
